Dani has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system that provides surgeons with automated feedback on their performance. To provide such feedback, the system consists of three simple steps: 1) record a video of a surgical procedure, 2) assess the performance of a surgeon based on the video using an AI system that had originally been trained to assess skills from thousands of surgical videos manually annotated by expert surgeons. 3) present a personalized feedback report based on the assessment. This report tracks surgeon performance over time and recommends areas for improvement.

The AI system has three distinguishing features. First, it can reliably assess the quality of a comprehensive set of skills. Second, it provides reasoning for the skill assessment. Lastly, it is fair when providing such assessments, whereby the AI system can be equally applied to all surgeons regardless of their gender or race, making it widely acceptable.
