Cell Banking at a paper cut

We have lost 100 million humans to cancer in the last decade. That is because cancer is a complex disease. Developing a new drug takes an average of 2 billion dollars, and 12 years of research.  Ayoub’s work strives toward redefining preclinical testing, by providing more reliable cancer tumor model for future immediate use.

This technology provides an innovative way to cryopreserve mammalian cells, on paper, without compromising their quality. This proprietary method is cost‐effective (uses conventional filter papers), space‐saving (paper is a flexible material, yet mechanically stable, making it possible to store it in rolls/stacks to reduce space requirements), as well as simple and easy to manage (pieces of paper cut be cut on‐demand and shipped to customers). A noteworthy point is that this method requires no additional modification to the conventional protocols for freezing and thawing cells, as we are only changing the material that contains cells. This makes it easier for the scientific community to adopt the technology.
