Mohammed Al-Essawi innovation is “Akhdar” an AI-powered monitoring, reporting, and verification platform that enhances the credibility and scalability of carbon offset generation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The idea was inspired by the manual and fragmented nature of existing carbon offsetting initiatives in Saudi Arabia, despite the country’s high national emissions, creating a gap in trust and measurement accuracy.
Akhdar addresses this issue by providing a structured, transparent, and data-driven verification framework for the carbon market. The platform integrates several solutions: an AI-powered carbon footprint calculator to measure emissions from daily activities; an e-commerce API integration that displays the carbon impact of a purchase and offers offset options at checkout; and a marketplace for verified carbon offsets.
At its core is a monitoring, reporting, and verification system that uses AI to ensure that every carbon offset is accurately measured, verified, and reported according to international standards, thus simplifying companies' compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
The "Akhdar" app is currently in use, enabling online shoppers on partner Saudi platforms to offset emissions instantly and allowing companies to compile and streamline their emissions reports.
Future plans include expanding AI-powered emissions tracking and API integration across the GCC and MENA region to create a scalable ecosystem for reducing carbon emissions.
